Yellow Fin Seafood and Restaurant

Yellow Fin’s famous Greaseless Chicken.

Yellow Fin Seafood and Restaurant, ironically, is one of my favorite haunts not for its seafood, but for its fantastic greaseless chicken, a trend that seemingly exists only in Davao City. Only recently have I been able to taste their other specialties, which I was able to do during the recently-concluded Davao Food Appreciation Tour. Owned by the Angeles family, Yellow Fin goes way back in 1992 when it was still a small karinderya on Quimpo Boulevard. I don’t recall ever eating there, despite that the family of a high school classmate, JC, owned the place. Yellow Fin is now managed by JC’s shrewd younger siblings Marco and Sam, who both made it the success that it is today.

When I heard that Yellow Fin was hosting our dinner on our first night, I was excited! Our blogger friends from General Santos City and Manila as well some local bloggers joined us on that occasion.

The imbao, a traditional piping hot clam soup flavored with ginger and scallions brimming with fresh clams.

Sizzling Tuna Belly — marinated fresh tuna belly seared on a hot plate.

The Kinilaw, a salad of fresh tuna, cucumbers and onions drenched in vinegar.

Laing, a traditional side dish that’s spicy and delicious that went well with everything we ate. Made of coconut milk and gabi leaves.

Lechon Kawali is chopped fried pork belly traditionally dipped in liver sauce.

The Buntot na Adobo. Can I just say Wow!? It’s fried tuna tail cooked adobo-style — with soy sauce and garlic. It’s crisp on the outside and chewy in the inside. Absolutely a must-try.

We used to buy food from Kariderya way back when. Hehe! Same delicious food.

The adobong tuna buntot and the fish laing are must-trys. And the imbao soup is heavenly.

Only a few restaurants can get the Imbao soup right and Yellow Fin is way up there in that short list.

I go there mostly for their greaseless chicken too.
